An early warning system for all Madison County residents went on line in June, and the Alton Fire Chief wants to make sure everyone knows about it. "Code Red" was first introduced to the area when the Godfrey Village Board chose to go with that service, rather than erect tornado sirens. Its effectiveness in warning subscribers of eminent danger is well documented.
Bernie Sebold says while many people that subscribe to the service do so with their cell phone, it is also available for those with land-lines.
You can find out more about the system by calling the Madison County Emergency Management Agency at 692-0537, or by following the link
