The Alton City Council Committee of the Whole is expected to discuss the future of the Alby Quarry during tonight’s meeting. The property has had its business license withheld for some time due to existing easement issues and the future of the property is up in the air.
Alton Mayor Brant Walker says the goal is to eventually turn the property into a landfill and that a measure on tonight’s agenda is designed to protect the area surrounding the former quarry should it become a landfill.

Walker says the business license for the property will continue to be withheld until the easement issues are resolved. He also says that he is unsure what will become of the property if the plans to turn the former quarry into a landfill fall through.
Tonight’s meeting starts at 7:00 in the City Council Chambers.
