“Community Invite to Public Meeting to Preserve Area Indian Mounds for National Park Designation”
HeartLands Conservancy invites all communities, individuals, and organizations to participate in the review of the feasibility study elevated national designated area to protect and preserve the prehistoric Mississippian Mounds groups remaining in the Illinois Metro East and St. Louis Area.
Over the past 18 months, with guidance from American Indian Tribes/Nations, local, state and federal agencies, communities, and non-profit organizations, the HeartLands Conservancy Project Team completed an intensive work plan seeking input and support on the feasibility of elevating the Mounds to a formal unit of the National Park Service.
The final Open House will be on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 7pm at Cahokia Mounds Sate Historic Site Interpretive Center. The purpose of the meeting is to review and seek input on the study’s project progress and recommendations. The meeting begins at 7:00 pm with a short presentation followed by a work session. Free and open to all.
