Description: Belleville is known for its downtown events: Art on the Square, the Chili Cook-off and Wine, Dine and Jazz, to name a few. Each of these have become staples of the social year for people in Belleville. One of the newer events is Belleville Main Street’s Brew & Que BBQ Challenge and Craft Beer Walk.

The event combines the two great culinary companions of every good summer, barbecue and beer. The barbecue portion of the event will take place on one block of Belleville’s East Main Street between Church and Charles Streets and the Craft Beer Walk will be located in businesses across the downtown.

The barbecue will take place throughout the day on the block and, like the Chili Cook-off, includes a challenge which will name a first place winner of the event. Contestants will be able to create anything they like for the competition, be it ribs or pulled pork, but only the tastiest will get the custom-made pig ribbon and bragging rights for the year. Also, again like the Chili Cook-off, samples from each vendor will be available for a modest $1-2 per sample. Entrée prices will vary as those are set by the contestants, but everyone should be able to try a wide selection of the foods hoping to claim the ribbon. 

Variety is the name of the game for the Craft Beer Walk which will bring creations from thirteen breweries like local favorites Schlafly and 4 Hands, as well as others from around the nation like Shiner, Stone, Abita and Founders. The brew walk is fashioned after the Art and Wine Walk which means that when you buy a ticket, you’ll receive a map of each local business that’s offering samples downtown. Beers will be available in 1-3 oz samples, the amount limited by Illinois Law. And one $15 ticket gets you 16 tastings. 

If food and brews aren’t enough to keep you entertained, there will also be three bands playing during the day and a DJ spinning throughout the event as well. All of the proceeds go to benefit Belleville Main Street, which seeks to revitalize and invigorate Belleville’s downtown through coordination with local businesses, leaders, active community members and the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce.
