Alton IL - 05/12/16 - Dark Horse Art Works is pleased to announce the Patty Badman Art Exhibit. Please join us May 21- 22, 2016 at The Old Bakery Beer Company, located at 400 Landmarks Blvd. Alton, IL. Doors open from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

The paintings are predominately of women. Women caught in the still of a moment. They are warriors and peacemakers, lovers and rivals, independent and cooperative. They embrace their “womanhood” without any mask of appearances and with no apologies.

Artist statements are required of artists to potentially help explain to the viewer an artist’s intent, motivation, passion, thought process, etc. While these can be a useful aid, the more authentic way to view this art is to do just that. View. The. Art. If the work intrigues you, ask yourself questions. What is it about the color that speaks to me? What is it about the subject matter that has grabbed my attention? What current emotional state am I in and what effect does this have on my perception of the visual image? What is it about my own experiences that allow me to connect and appreciate the art?

Viewing art is like any moment we have in daily life. It is to be viewed, it is to be processed in our minds and configured in a way that either fits with what we already know, disagrees with what we already know, or changes what we already know. In other words, like beauty, art is in the eye of the beholder.

Get there early for best selection as all art on display will be for sale on a first come, first served basis. Please inquire if a piece would benefit your collection.

Eric Stauffer created Dark Horse Art Works to give artists of all skill levels the opportunity to get their art sold and viewed by the public. Dark Horse Art Works exhibits have been featured at Jacoby Arts Center, Spirits Lounge and Alton Square Mall. Several opportunities for artists are in the near future. More art can be seen at the Dark Horse Art Works Facebook page.
