Tucked away behind the trees on Route 157 and sitting on top of a hill, the Edwardsville American Legion Post 199 site can be easy to overlook.
A nine-hole public golf course and Fourth of July celebration, among other events, including bingo, draw plenty of residents up the hill.
The Legion has added a new event to the calendar, the first-ever Spring Rocks On the Hill concert on April 16. Three bands will play from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the front yard and tickets are $5.
“It was just a collaboration,” Sandy Huber said. “We are all working up there trying to make ways for the Legion to be more viable. It’s a beautiful place and a beautiful spot.”
The Watershed Spring Band will play from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., followed by the Skylark Brothers until 8 p.m. and then the Mondin Band will close out the event until 11 p.m.
The Watershed String Band is a local traditional bluegrass band. It features Rob Kindle, Derek Twesten, Colin Graham, Blake Korte and Logan Perez.
The Skylark Brothers, an acoustic and electric classic rock band, features Dave Torretta, Derek Twesten, Steve Loucks and Jack Twesten.
The Mondin Band features John Mondin, Johnny Coatney and Paul Graves. The classic rock band plays music from the 1960s and '70s.
“The Watershed Spring brand is a bluegrass band. They are local and have played here before. We are excited about that,” Huber said. “The other two are classic rock bands.”
Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
Concertgoers are asked to bring a lawn chair.
