Bankside Repertory Theatre Company wraps up its premier season with “Hidden in This Picture, and Other Stories,” an evening of one-act plays from some of the world’s best playwrights, old and new. All five acts are short, funny and remind us of what it is to be human. The six founding members of Bankside pull out all the stops for an evening of funny, thoughtful and imaginative live theater.
The collection features one-act plays by playwrights Aaron Sorkin, John Patrick Shanley, Don Nigro, Anton Chekov and William Inge.
The featured one-act, “Hidden in This Picture,” is by acclaimed writer Aaron Sorkin. “Hidden” humorously deals with the glory and frustration of modern filmmaking, a world Sorkin knows well. John Patrick Shanley’s “The Lonely Impulse of Delight” presents the dilemma of two people from very different worlds falling in love. Quirky and funny, Don Nigro’s “Things That Go Bump in the Night” is the story of what happens when the play-going experience follows you home. Also performed are a short play by classic Russian playwright Anton Chekov and one by William Inge.
All of the talents of the six company members will be on display as actors and/or directors. The members include Chrissy Calkins Steele, Sue Ellen Coughtry, Geoff Callaway and Caleb King, featured in last fall’s “Call Me Waldo,” as well as Trish Brown and John J. O’Hagan, last seen in “Love Letters” in February.
Performances are Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on April 17 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for general admission or $10 for students with a school ID.
