About this event

Enjoy traditional Dixieland jazz, swing and rock ‘n roll music from the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘60s starting at 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 18 at Jacoby Arts Center in Alton. The big brass sound will lift the spirit, lighten the heart, and start the foot tapping. Visitors can take in JAC’s latest exhibit before or after the performance and browse the artist’s gift shop.

The popular Dixie Dudes and Dance Band is comprised of talented amateur and professional musicians who play for fun and recreation. The players include two teachers, a politician, two engineers, a pilot and two doctors. Hear Rusty Lucy on drums, Jerry Lavick and Kathy Bowman on keyboard, Dick Whorthen on trombone, Bob Crause and Yvonne Mossman on sax, Dave Miller on clarinet/sax, Linton Luetje on tuba and Doc Herzon on trumpet.

“On Friday night, the east gallery really comes alive and allows us to highlight Jacoby as a community arts center, ” says Denny Scarborough, Jacoby’s president. “Spoon Baking Company will have their delectable gooey butter cakes, chocolate and butter cream cupcakes, and more chocolate goodies for sale. A new exhibition of architectural photographs and paintings is on view in the main gallery and the artist’s shop is open.”

Set aside the holiday shuffle for awhile at Jacoby Arts Center. Sit, relax and enjoy the Dixie Dudes and Dance Band as they deliver Dixieland, rock ‘n roll, swing and country music for listening and dancing.

“Jacoby provides a large stage, ample comfortable seating, a dance floor, reasonable drinks, and great parking,” says band member Charles “Doc” Herzon.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis and no reservations are required. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10. Food and drink are available at an additional cost.
