About this event

Jacoby’s Friday Nites Live! hosts the Air Force Band of Mid-America Shades of Blue Jazz Combo this Friday, September 18, at 7pm.

Celebrating the musical excellence of our region, Jacoby Arts Center invites the pubic to enjoy the first-class musicians and vocals of the Shades of Blue Jazz Combo, featuring area favorite Anneke Bentley. Admission is free. All are welcome.

“Jacoby Arts Center is proud to have Airman First Class Anneke Bentley return to our stage,” says Denny Scarborough, Jacoby president.  “And we saw Anneke called to perform center stage at the Alton Amphitheater Fourth of July festivities this year.”

An ensemble of 8 professional enlisted musicians, whose repertoire ranges from traditional big band jazz, to bebop and swing, to modern jazz, entertains with the classic sounds of Count Basie and Glenn Miller through to the music of contemporary composers including their own accomplished arrangers and composers within the band.

The Shades of Blue Jazz Combo, comprised of piano, flute, bass, saxophones, drums, and vocals, will play Fly Me To The Moon, All or Nothing at All, I Hear a Rhapsody, Epistrophy, Stardust, and Caravan, to name just a few of their favorite tunes.

“Since her debut at Jacoby several years ago,” says Denny Scarborough, “Anneke graduated with Highest Honors from Principia College, majoring in Theater and Music. Already having worked with Broadway composers and lyricists, she plans to obtain her Masters in Vocal Performance from Webster University. We are thrilled to have her back at Jacoby!”

Local bistro State Street Market will be on site offering their unique specialties — ceviche, Italian beef sliders, and dark chocolate brownies — along side a cash bar.  Food and drink can be purchased directly from the vendors.

Doors open at 6:30pm. The performance starts at 7pm.

Accompanying the colorful Illinois Quiltscape exhibition in the Main Gallery, the East Gallery cabaret features music-inspired textile constructions by Elsah artist Sun Smith-Foret titled “Marley,” 2015, and “Almost Famous,” 2012.
