About this event

ALTON — The Jacoby Arts Center continues its successful Summer Music Series with an appearance by Somehow Peachy, local artists Holly Barber and Janet Buchanan’s newest collaboration.

Longtime friends, the two singers first met as college students and have enjoyed sharing their love of music with an audience since singing a capella in a group at Principia College in Elsah more than a decade ago. As Something Peachy, the singers blend together their favorite styles of folk, bossa nova and jazz.

“This series is a great opportunity for people to hear a variety of styles and sounds in the Jacoby Arts Center’s relaxed setting,” said Denny Scarborough, Jacoby’s president. “While many area residents may not yet be familiar with Something Peachy’s silky harmonies, this duo is sure to become a local favorite.”

Because Barber grew up in Los Angeles and Buchanan hails from England, each artist brings a distinctive musical vocabulary to create the group’s unique sound. Barber’s earliest musical influences were classic Motown and Broadway show tunes while Buchanan listened to such legendary Latin artists as Antonio Carlos Jobim and Astrud Gilberto, whose songs presented unusual chords and slinky rhythms.

“Over the years, we have expanded one another’s tastes to include folk, bluegrass, and many other wonderful styles,” Barber explained. “And, we both love the way music can bring people together.”

“This cabaret series provides an exciting reason to spend every Friday night at Jacoby to experience just a small sampling of the extraordinary talent that can be found in our region,” Scarborough added. “Additionally, we have paired each concert with a local food purveyor to add to the evening’s enjoyment. For this concert, we have partnered with Spoon Baking Co., and we feel proud to be part of such a talented community.”

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, and no reservations are required. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10. Doors open at 7:30pm.
