Want something a little different for a day on the Mississippi? Grab a bunch of your friends and try paddling down the river in the Mississippi River Water Trail Association's 2nd Annual Poker Paddle on September 20, 2014. The Poker Paddle starts at Sherwood Access and takes out at Hideaway Harbor on the Mississippi River. Registration opens at 10:00 a.m. at Sherwood Access, near Grafton Ferry in St. Charles County, MO. The registration fee covers your game and a cook-out lunch (hotdogs, chips, and a cookie). Kayaks and canoes can be rented for a small additional fee. After the 10:30 mandatory safety meeting, players paddle to different locations where a dealer will give out cards to build your hand. Card sheets may be turned in until 2:30 p.m. at Hideaway Harbor with awards immediately after the last card is accepted. We recommend that you keep playing into the evening with a visit to one of the great river towns or harbors along the river as the perfect ending to the day.
The person with the winning hand will receive 25 percent of the registration fees. Safety boaters will be on hand to assist participants. Shuttles will be provided to move people (not boats). No inflatable boats, please. All participants must be at least 16 years of age and all participants must wear at USCG approved lifejacket.
