The public is invited to a free performance by the Soulard Blues Band on Friday, June 27th. The 8:00 p.m. performance will take place in Edwardsville’s City Park bandstand next to the Library as part of the City’s Arts in the Park series.
With over 25 years of giggin’ and a dozen wins in the popular Riverfront Times poll for the Best Blues Act in St. Louis, the Soulard Blues Band is one of the hardest working and most experienced acts in town. Formed by bassist Art Dwyer in 1978 this band has been delighting audiences all over the area for more than a quarter of a decade.
As sole remaining founder Art Dwyer will tell you, "Our mission always is just to leave things around a little better than we found 'em." That ethic applies equally to song arrangements, the mood of the audience and the entire musical scene in this city that birthed such towering talents as Miles Davis, Johnny Johnson, Henry Townsend, Oliver Sain and many more.
This performance is part of the City’s ongoing Arts in the Park program – a series of arts activities with live performances every Thursday and Friday evening, children’s art classes every Saturday morning and monthly movies in the park. Seating at the park is open for blankets, lawn chairs, and at the benches. Pets and coolers are welcome but no alcohol or glass containers, please.
