(Alton August 1, 2009) Several area teenagers will be working this week and next week cleaning parks in the City of Alton. Youth at Work 2009, consisting of 8-10 young people, will be picking up tree limbs, litter, and trash in several parks.
The Coalition of Concerned Citizens, working with Madison County Employment and Training, organized this work program. David Stoecklin, of Madison County Employment and Training said, "They (Madison County Employment and Training) are very appreciative of the City of Alton and work site supervisors like Alderwoman Alice Martin. The opportunities provided through this program are invaluable to the participants because the skills acquired through this program should serve these young people for the rest of their lives."
Starting Tuesday, August 4, the teenagers will be working at Piasa and Belle Streets and James H. Killion Park at Salu in the morning. On Tuesday afternoon, work will be occurring at Hellrung Park. On August 5, East Elementary School is on the schedule for the morning and Alton Middle School for the afternoon. On August 6, they will work along Rock Springs Memorial Drive and Lewis and Clark College. During the week of August 10, the kids will be cleaning up Rock Springs Park.
