Jersey County�s Relay For Life is Fast Approaching

Survivors Can Still Sign Up; Luminarias Are On Sale

(Jerseyville, IL � May 22, 2009) � The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Jersey County is fast approaching. The event takes place overnight on Friday, June 5. Survivors can still sign up to participate in this year�s Relay event. Luminarias are also available now through the evening of Relay.
The Relay event begins with a Survivor Dinner, being held at 5:30 p.m. that evening in the high school cafeteria. It�s not too late for survivors and their loved ones to sign up for the Dinner and to participate in the Opening Ceremony at Relay. Those interested in taking part in this memorable evening should contact Jeris Scoggins at 618-498-5373.
Also as a part of the Relay night, a display of Luminarias is lit in remembrance of those who have passed due to cancer. New this year, Luminarias can be displayed to honor caregivers or to help celebrate 25 years of Relay. The names of those who have passed will be read as a part of the ceremony. This year�s Relay theme is The Power of Love � Relay Rewound. Celebrating 25 years of hope, this year�s theme is all about the 1980s. There is a special emphasis on 1985, the year of the first Relay For Life. Sixteen teams of cancer fighting enthusiasts from throughout Jersey County and beyond will gather at Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville overnight to show their support and dedication. The public is invited to come out to the Relay and enjoy the food and activities available throughout the night while helping support the battle to eradicate cancer from our community and our world.
