PIE Town Designs, Inc. is coordinating a clean-up of Alton / Godfrey stop light intersections and medians. Richard Baird serves as executive manager of PIE Town’s landscaping business and assumes responsibility for the activity. On July 25th some volunteers gathered at Monticello Plaza to initiate the effort. The second call for volunteers is at hand, as you are needed for Saturday August 15’s clean-up sweep. An event co-sponsored by The City of Alton and the Village of Godfrey.
Beginning at 9:00 a.m. participants again should meet at Monticello Plaza, across from LCCC in the parking lot near Dairy Queen. Please bring work gloves though the organizer is attempting to provide them as well as trash bags, lawn bags, etc. Additional information can be obtained by calling Richard at (401-4017.)
Defining a community begins with the amount and quality of care given in the routine maintenance of its outdoor environment. Alton and Godfrey share a common heritage rich in natural beauty and intricately interwoven into the fabric of America’s development. It is a duty for all citizens to contribute to the task of maintaining this area with sensitivity driven by a common cause!
When a guest is invited into someones home, frequently there is a desire to tidy the rooms in an effort to present a clean and well maintained facility. Should not the same attitude apply to the great outdoors as new businesses are welcomed and tourism is a much sought after commodity? Everyone needs to lend a hand! Donations of gloves, trash bags, lawn bags, beverages, and snacks hopefully will continue to flow from local merchants. At the first clean-up day, Duke Bakery / Schwegels Grocery, Airline Bowl, and St. Peters Hardware donated items. Thank you to each business a thousand times over!
