Fundraiser for Alton Dog Park set for October 17th at Gordon Moore Park
Dogs Welcome to Party in the Park
The Alton Dog Park Task Force, in conjunction with the Alton Parks and
Recreation Department, is sponsoring a canine festival at Gordon Moore Park
on Saturday, October 17th, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The La La Paw Loosa
Dog Festival is an opportunity for residents of the Alton area to come
together to show their support for the up and coming Dog Park in the city of
Alton. The ball fields at Gordon Moore Park will be converted into off-leash
dog play areas and for a $2.00 donation to the Alton Dog Park your dog can
play and socialize with others. No entry fee for humans. There will be pet
specialty vendors on site selling products and services for pet lovers,
along with food, drinks, etc. All friendly dogs and humans are welcome to
join in the festivities; Owners should bring proof of current vaccinations,
and all pets must be spayed or neutered to attend. Children are welcome at
attend with their best friend however, for safety reasons, no children under
18 years of age will be allowed in the actual dog park runs. The La La Paw
Loosa will be the first trial run of what the eventual dog park will look
like. The city will use the information gathered during this event to
determine the size the dog park needs to be, as well as helping to determine
the demographics of the likely dog park patrons. These particular are
essential in the planning and creating of the Alton Dog Park.
The Dog Park Task Force is a group of private individuals who have been
working with the support of the city to gather information, and educate the
citizens on the benefits of a dog park in our town. The Task Force members
are pet care providers, business owners, and pet owners who long for a place
to allow their pets to run free and gain social skills. Our goal is to build
Alton the best and biggest dog park in southern Illinois, which will provide
a safe place for dog owners to exercise with their dogs, to socialize with
other dog owners, and to conduct educational events for the community. In
addition, a dog park will bring to our town more travelers, providing a
boost to the local economy. The dog park will encourage spay/neuter, as only
pets who are altered will be allowed to run free in the park, it will drive
compliance for registering your pet with the city and county for tags will
be required. This will help increase revenue for the city and lower our pet
over-population problem. Having a dog park is a win-win situation for Alton,
and we are extremely proud of the support we have received thus far from the
community.
