ALTON, IL � (June 3, 2008) � The Jacoby Arts Center in Alton kicks off its fourth annual Juried Art Exhibit with an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 20. The awards presentation of three cash prizes and three Awards of Excellence by Juror Belinda Lee will take place at 6:30 pm. Friday evening. All six finalists will be invited to exhibit in the January 2008 Awards of Excellence exhibit. The opening reception and exhibit are free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through August 10. Additionally, a Gallery Talk has been scheduled for July 13.
Artists selected to participate in the Juried Art Exhibit include Amy Ball, Andrew Bievenue, Victoria Conley, David M. Cornell, Jon DenHouter, Roberta Elliott, John Farley, Jen Flores, Janet Fons, Peter Gifford, Peggy Hagin, Jane Johnson Hoeltzel, Christine Ilewski, Martha Iler, Hwang Kim, Joseph A. Langley, Lance Mallon, Michael E Mason, Yvonne McCall, Christy O�Brien, Sarah Perkins, Damia Smith, Harland Lee Taylor, Sonny Trost, Gene Ursprung, Jeff Vaughn, and David M. Yates.
Juror Belinda Lee is the Director of Gallery and Visual Art at COCA, Center of Creative Arts, in the University City Loop. She is a professional visual artist who has shown her work extensively in the region as well as nationally. A curator as well, Lee's most recent project was a show at Regional Arts Commission, titled Abstract Painting: Six Points of View. Lee joined COCA from Washington University's Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Art, where she was on the faculty and an administrator. She also served as Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs where her duties included overseeing the study abroad program in Florence, Italy.
The competition was open to artists residing in Illinois or Missouri, 18 years of age or older. Eligible artwork included drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, glass, fiber, metalsmithing, photography, and mixed media.
