Troop 30s Emergency Preparedness merit badge class conducted a disaster drill on Saturday, February 28, at St. Johns United Methodist Church. The whole Troop was mobilized through a calling tree as if there was a national emergency. The Scouts practiced survival skills to help them think their way through the immediate aftermath of a disaster.
After the disaster drill, the class members put together comfort kits for the Red Cross to be given to victims of disasters who are forced to evacuate to shelters. Through the generosity of the members of St. Johns United Methodist Church and the Community Involvement Committee of the Edwardsville Business and Professional Womens Club, the Scouts were able to put together 47 kits; with more supplies continuing to be donated through March 9th, when a Red Cross representative will come and accept the kits from the Troop.
Troop 30 is chartered by St. Johns United Methodist Church, 7372 Marine Road, Edwardsville, IL 62025.
