ALTON – OSF HealthCare is expanding its use of an artificial intelligence platform to its hospitals across its Illinois and Michigan health system. OSF announced the expansion with RapidAI, a technology company that provides artificial intelligence tools for medical imaging and patient care.

The Rapid Enterprise Platform is designed to help doctors analyze medical images, identify potential strokes and other conditions, and coordinate care more quickly.

OSF says its initial use of the technology at select hospitals led to improvements in treatment times and more consistent identification of patients who could benefit from stroke intervention.

Dr. Arun Talkad, who directs stroke care at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria says the goal is to make advanced technology available throughout the system.

“The sooner we can get these images that we have rapid access to, literally right on our phone, and we can get excellent quality images while I’m talking to the provider, that can save minutes and every minute is 2 million brain cells that are dying during a stroke so if it saves one minute, then it’s worth it.”

After seeing how RapidAI supported clinical decisions and patient care at select hospitals, OSF saw the opportunity to extend the value across all hospitals, strengthening access to specialty expertise and helping deliver high-quality, consistent care at every level of our health system.
