The newest boutique on the Alton scene, By Design, 136 Front Street, located on the ground floor of the Mississippi Lime Building in downtown Alton will open Friday, November 28, in time for Christmas shopping!
By Design, owned by Lillian Guccione Bates, is a boutique where a customer can find one-of-a-kind clothing, accessories and fiber related art. As well as Lillians line of clothing and custom demi-couture orders, one can find very special art and gifts created by local and regional artists.
By Design also have two unique offerings that will enhance and expand a womans fashion options. These are Waist Not and Boot Leg. The first, Waist Not, is a line of incomplete skirts, that is, a lined skirt with a zipper but no hem or waistband. Clients pick out the skirt according to hip size and then the skirt is fitted to the individual and finished on site, thus having a custom made skirt to fit precisely. Women can finally own a skirt that doesnt bunch in the back waist, doesnt need a hem and fits in the waist AND hips at the same time! The other unique offering of By Design is Boot Leg. Boot Leg is a boot shaft that fits over ones own shoe. If youve ever experienced the difficulty of boots that dont fit due to a large or muscular calf, or a calf that is small, Boot Leg may be an answer. The shaft is made in many styles and materials and sized to fit the individual.
Another very special line of coats that By Design will offer is the Donna Saylers Fabulous Fur collection. These faux fur coats, jackets and accessories are made from the highest quality fibers that blend to create a series of the most luxurious faux furs on the market. A Trunk Show is scheduled for December 6 & 7 to launch the Fabulous Furs into this area. Dozens of beautiful and affordable items will be available to try on, feel and purchase.
