Junior Girl Scout Troop #624 is working on a Bronze Award Project. As part of the Bronze Award Project, they are collecting U.S flags that are in worn, torn or faded. Residents can take flags that need retired to Schnucks on Godfrey Road and Homer Adams Parkway or to the Shop-N-Save on the Homer Adams Parkway during the month of May. Boxes have been placed in the lobby or at Customer Service Desk at these stores.
A Bronze Award is the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can earn. It requires them to learn the leadership and planning skills necessary to follow through on a project that makes a positive impact on her community. Working towards this award demonstrates their commitment to helping others, improving their community and the world, and becoming the best they can be.
In addition to the boxes placed in local grocery stores, the troop will be collecting flags along the Alton Memorial Day Parade route. The Exchange Club will be handing out small flags along the parade route. Flags for in need of retirement can be given to Girl Scouts assisting the Exchange Club.
A flag retirement ceremony will be conducted in early June.
