Cheryl Eichar Jett, Metro East author and historian, will sign her new book, Alton, from Arcadia Publishing Company, on Saturday, April 4 from 1 3 pm at Second Reading Book Shop, 16 E. Broadway in Alton. The book features vintage photos and post cards of Alton drawn from a variety of sources, including family photos shared exclusively for this book which have not previously been published. Highlights from Altons rich historic past are illustrated within the Arcadia Images of America Series book.
Jett, born and reared in central Illinois, has made the Metro East her home for the past decade and has delved into its history. She is currently working on a second title for Arcadia Publishing Company, a postcard history of Edwardsville, which will be released in the fall of 2009. She has also received grant awards for her research into the lives and activities of Southwestern Indian women during the World War II era, and has spent several summers doing oral history interviews in northern New Mexico. Jett has worked variously as a music teacher, reporter and feature writer, and bookkeeper. After receiving a graduate degree in History from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2001, she served for several years as Executive Director of Cahokia Mounds Museum Society at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site in Collinsville. She now works as a freelance grant writer and historical researcher.
