JERSEYVILLE - Jerseyville resident Crystal Bock has joined the ranks of Scheffel & Company P.C. as a senior accountant, working from the company�s Jerseyville office.
After graduating from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a bachelor�s degree in accountancy in December 2004, Bock worked for three-and-a-half years for a local accounting firm, before joining Scheffel & Company this summer.
With her previous accounting experience, she immediately took on responsibilities at the firm, concentrating on government audits, annual financial reports and a variety of tax-related work.
She�s even looking forward to tax season.
�I know it will be very hectic and a lot of work, but I like that,� Bock said. �My favorite subject all through school was always mathematics, and I like the balance of math and accounting.�
Bock�s aunt and cousin are accountants, and she evidently perpetuated the tradition within her immediate family. While she was majoring in accounting in college, it sparked an interest for her younger twin sisters, Julie and Jenna, who both followed in her footsteps at SIUE, and who now also work for Scheffel & Company - out of the Alton office.
�I thought it was kind of neat that my sisters were interested in the same thing as I was,� Bock said. �I helped them a little, but they�re both very capable without me.�
Bock continued her education at SIUE, earning the 150 credit hours beyond a bachelor�s degree required for the Certified Public Accountant exam. She plans to sit for the test sometime within the next year.
In addition to the Alton office, which was established in 1955, Scheffel & Company has offices in Highland, Jerseyville, Carrollton and Edwardsville, with more than 70 employees in all. Westerhold, principal and certified financial planner for Scheffel Financial Services; and Joe Malench, principal for Scheffel Computer Services; all four also working from the Edwardsville office.
Michael E. Fitzgerald is principal and head of the tax department, based in the Alton office. Steve Pembrook is also a principal in Alton. Ron Schneider and Mark Korte are principals based in Highland. Kim Loy is principal in both the Jerseyville and Carrollton offices.
