(Staunton, IL - February 1, 2010) Grace Hassard is a first grade student at Staunton Elementary School and a victim of a malignant brain tumor that was found in November 2009. In an effort to help the family cope with the incredible costs associated with the needed treatments and medical care, a benefit will be held on February 13, 2010 at the Crystal Ballroom in Staunton, Illinois.
Grace, at just 6 years old, was diagnosed with a malignant glioneuronal tumor. She has undergone multiple surgeries and procedures since November 2009. She is currently receiving physical, occupational, and speech therapy to re-learn how to walk and talk. Her treatment plan includes both chemotherapy and radiation.
Prior to her illness, Grace enjoyed playing soccer, t-ball, swimming and hunting for seashells. Graces parents are Bart and Jerilyn Hassard of Staunton. Bart is the Chief Deputy of the Macoupin County Sheriffs Department. Grace also has a big brother, Brylie, who is eleven.
