Alton Marketplace and Downtown Alton Inc. to serve up local flavor at the Taste of Downtown
(Alton, IL - November 18, 2009) � For only $5.00, guests can sample a variety of local flavor from their favorite downtown dining & drinking establishments at the Taste of Downtown. The event will be held on Friday, November 20th from 5:30-8:30 at the Temple Banquet Facility, above Spirits Lounge at 300 State Street.
Many restaurants will be preparing a sampling of their cuisine, and wine and beer will be included. Some highlights of the menu include: New Orleans style gumbo, crab cakes, chicken or beef skewers, pecan coconut scallops and a wide variety of gourmet desserts. Tickets may be purchased in advance at any of the participating establishments: Spirits Restaurant & Lounge, Bossanova Restaurant & Lounge, Taylor Made Treats & Tea Room, Ice House Catering & Cookery, Mac's Time Out Lounge, KO Cupcake Creations, Oz Artisan Bakery, Tony�s Restaurant, Duke Bakery, and Chez Marilyn.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit organizers Alton Marketplace and Downtown Alton Inc. to advance their shared goal of improving and enhancing the downtown district.
The public is encouraged to make a night of it and enjoy all of the fun activities while patronizing the downtown merchants for their holiday shopping. Free trolley transportation will be provided between the Temple Banquet Facility and the 15th Annual Tree Lighting at Lincoln-Douglas Square, and other activities will line 3rd Street from 7:00-9:00, such as a live reindeer, carolers and a performance by the A-Town Steppers. Please bring your cameras to capture photos of your family with Santa and the live reindeer at no charge.
Also plan to stop by the new Riverbender Community Center, which will be hosting an Open House all evening. Stop by before or after the Taste of Downtown and Tree Lighting to see what's in store for the new Teen Center at 200 W. 3rd Street in the old Meridian Bank building.
Before leaving the house for the evening, please remember these ways to help the less fortunate during the festivities. The public is encouraged to bring canned food donations to Lincoln-Douglas Square, where they will be constructed into a giant �Castle of Cans� to benefit local food pantries. The Riverbender Community Center will have a barrel to collect toys for Community Hope Center, who will distribute the gifts to children for Christmas. The greatest need is for 10-15 year old level.
