Dr. Charles Schranck Honored with AMH Chairman�s Award
ALTON, IL � Charles Schranck, MD, is the most recent recipient of Alton Memorial Hospital�s prestigious Chairman�s Award.
Dr. Schranck, a radiologist on staff at AMH since 1991, received the award to a standing ovation from peers and friends at the hospital�s annual Chairman�s Award Dinner on June 12 at Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey. Paul Lauschke, chairman of the Alton Memorial Hospital board of directors, presented the award to Dr. Schranck.
�We are very fortunate to have Dr. Schranck working in our community and at Alton Memorial Hospital,� Lauschke said. �He joins a distinguished list of dedicated physicians, all chosen by their peers along with hospital employees who work together every day to improve the health of the communities we serve.�
Lauschke said the hospital board received numerous nominations for this year�s award. The Chairman�s Award publicly acknowledges a member of the Alton Memorial Hospital medical staff for the contributions the physician makes to the hospital and community, active participation in hospital and medical staff departmental affairs, and the promotion and practice of outstanding customer service with hospital patients and staff.
�I am both humbled and honored to receive this award and to be included in such a distinguished group of Chairman�s Award recipients -- physicians I�ve had the pleasure and opportunity to work with and look up to during my 18 and a half years at Alton Memorial Hospital,� Dr. Schranck said. �I�ve enjoyed my work in the Radiology department and the numerous other activities supporting the mission of AMH. And I look forward to many more years here as we continue to serve our patients and the community.�
Dr. Schranck, 52, was born in Omaha, Neb., and earned his bachelor�s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1977. He earned his medical degree at Creighton University School of Medicine in 1981 and then did a residency in diagnostic radiology at Wesley Medical Center and the University of Kansas � Wichita Affiliated Hospital.
Dr. Schranck joined the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of major and earning the Air Force Commendation Medal in 1988 and the Air Force Commendation Medal, First Oak Leaf Cluster, in 1991. He was chief of radiology at the 416th Strategic Hospital on Griffiss Air Force Base in New York from 1985-88 before coming to Scott Air Force Base in 1988. He then joined Alton Medical Imaging Consultants in January 1991. He was president of the Madison County Medical Society in 2000 and has served as the chairman of the American Lung Association�s annual golf tournament the past two years.
Married (Julie) and the father of nine, Dr. Schranck has served with the Cub Scouts, St. Ambrose Parish and as a coach with the Rams Wrestling Club of East Alton in the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation.
�Dr. Schranck is highly respected by all members of the patient care team at Alton Memorial Hospital,� said Dave Braasch, president of AMH. �His many contributions, dedication and commitment over the years to radiological services here confirm this recognition.�
