Volunteers Needed for Relay For Life

Next Volunteer Meeting Scheduled for January 14

(Jerseyville, IL – January 7, 2008) – Walkers, cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), community leaders, team captains and hard workers are all still needed to make the American Cancer Society Relay For Life a reality in Jersey County. The second volunteer committee meeting for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life will be held on Tuesday, January 14 at 6 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Jerseyville to continue planning the event designed to raise funds and awareness of the fight against cancer throughout Jersey County.

Participants from all walks of life – including patients, medical support staff, corporations, civic organizations, churches and community volunteers – join together in the fight against cancer. Relay For Life is a team event where participants walk around a track relay style overnight. Teams of cancer fighting enthusiasts will gather at the Snyders Sports Complex at Illini Middle School in Jerseyville on May 30, 2008 to show their support and dedication.

Volunteers from the Jersey County area are still needed to continue planning now for this event. They are needed to organize and recruit teams, seek community support and underwrite, coordinate logistics, find refreshments and prizes, plan entertainment, and lend their support in any way. If you would like to join the Relay For Life in Jersey County as a volunteer or team participant, call Jersey County Event Chair Stephannie Meuth at 498-7162 or Amy Slauson of the American Cancer Society at 800-642-8084.

The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by saving lives, diminishing suffering and preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. Founded in 1913 and with national headquarters in Atlanta, the Society has 13 regional Divisions and local offices in 3,400 communities, involving millions of volunteers across the United States.
