Flooring Work Occurring Around Alton Memorial ED Area
Valet Service, Beeby Wing Entrance Provide Convenient Alternatives
August 13, 2009
ALTON, IL – Flooring replacement around the Alton Memorial Hospital Emergency Department waiting room means that certain waiting areas and public corridors will be periodically closed for the next couple of weeks.
Visitors and patients are encouraged to use the hospital’s free valet service, which is accessible via the circular drive adjacent to the Duncan Wing construction site from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Valet drop-off is close to the Beeby Wing entrance, which was the hospital’s main entrance before construction began, as well as the new entrance by Twin Rivers MRI. The use of those entrances is encouraged while the flooring work is being completed.
The existing floors in the ED area, including the Platt Wing elevator lobby and the connector lobby, are being removed on the midnight shift. The installation crew is following on the day shift. The new flooring is slate and will match what is being installed in the Duncan Wing, the 89,000-square-foot addition that will house 76 private beds and is scheduled to open in 2010.
During the day, a temporary shuttle service is being provided for transporting patients and visitors from the ED entrance and Lot A to the Beeby Wing entrance. Visitors and patients who need to access the hospital between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. should use the ED entrance.
