Rachel Marshall of NAMI Southwestern Illinois discusses the organization’s peer-led mental health resources and its NAMI Walks event at Moody Park in Fairview Heights. The walk was planned for Saturday, October 10, with a 1.5-mile loop, live music, a kids’ area, raffles and local organizations sharing resources.
Marshall describes NAMI’s free support groups, classes and community presentations, including programs for workplaces and schools. She also explains how peer support can help people find coping strategies and community, and notes that people can contact NAMI for help locating resources. The conversation includes a reminder that 988 can be used for support even when someone is not in immediate crisis.
