The Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) displayed a facet of its value to our local economies on Wednesday May 6th when it held its second annual Travel & Tourism Rally at Argosy Casino in Alton, Illinois.
Brett Stawar, President of the CVB, and his entire team were on hand to help kick-off the tourist season in a festive way. The Casino’s large auditorium was festooned with beach balls and the 200 attendees were given red or blue ‘rally-towels’ to wave. After lunch provided by Argosy, the CVB’s presentation began with an automated pelican named Fisher riding a miniature radio-controlled jet ski, who talked the audience through the ways the CVB helps bring tourists/travelers from near and far to visit (and spend at) regional attractions.
Fisher then introduced Stawar who spoke of the tourist-related economic progress the region was experiencing and touched on three key Convention & Visitors Bureau initiatives planned for the 2015 season which include the return of the very successful All Star Restaurant Week that will run between from July 10 through July 19; a new hash-tag promotion that gives the public the ability to share their pictures of regional businesses and landmarks directly to the region’s official travel site; and the debut of Kid’Cation, a program that insures both parents and kids their summer vacation will end with a flourish.
The CVB President then handed the mic off to WIL Radio personality Derrick Keith who introduced the crowd, and brought to the stage, fifteen (a mere fraction) of the regions tourist attractions. Once on the stage, every one of the businesses threw logo’d tchotchke to those in the audience.
Keith introduced:
Pere Marquette Lodge
Grafton Winery
US Army Corps of Engineers – Meeting of the Rivers Foundation
