Yvonne Campbell

Alton |

Yvonne Marie Campbell was born November 8, 1977, in Alton, Illinois. Blessed with 44 years, she was the daughter of Vera and the late LaBelle Campbell. Even from birth, she was full of surprises. Yvonne departed this life Wednesday, July 13, 2022, in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The doctors thought Vera would be delivering a big baby boy and two beautiful twin girls arrived, with Von becoming the last of nine siblings. She accepted Christ at an early age and kept a strong, unashamed, and unwavering faith in God throughout her lifespan. She was baptized at Campbell Chapel AME in Alton, IL, and later united with the Shalom Church (City of Peace) where she was a very faithful servant and an active member in the Next Generation Choir, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Freddy J. Clark.

She blessed the choir every third Sunday with her delicious breakfast casseroles and bread pudding to help push through three services.

Yvonne, affectionately called “Von”, attended and graduated from Alton High School in 1995. She received her Culinary Arts Degree from Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville, IL., in 2013. She began her culinary career at the tender age of 15 years old at My Just Desserts in Alton, IL. Her hard work and dedication would pay off as she would become the owner of My Just Desserts in Alton, IL., in July, 2018. She had the honor of being the owner for 4 prosperous years. During her time as a business owner

Yvonne received numerous accolades including: “Woman of Distinction” presented by the YMCA in 2021, “Illinois Made” Award presented by the Illinois Office of Tourism in 2021, and “Entrepreneur of the Year” presented by the 100 Black Men of Metropolitan St. Louis in 2018. She was also an active board member of the Alton Main Street, Oasis Women's Center, and The Great Rivers and Route Tourism Bureau.

Yvonne never met a stranger and her presence brought joy and light to every room she entered. Her passion for people and heart of gold made it seamless for her to welcome everyone, no matter their background. Von was well respected and recognizable everywhere she went, even though she had a twin! She was known for her confidence, magnetic personality, big beautiful smile, great hugs, back rubs, and most of all, her amazing cooking and baking skills.

She was the personification of living life to the fullest! On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 9:57 PM, while vacationing in Jamaica, Yvonne transitioned to enjoy eternal peace. She was preceded in death by her father, LaBelle Campbell, and brother, Lyle Campbell. Yvonne’s memory will forever be cherished by her 3 children, whom she called her pride and joy: Nakiyah, Prince, and Anaiah; mother, Vera; 5 sisters, Evelyn (her twin), Janell (Guyer), Quanna, Rita (Brian), and LaJuana (Darban); 2 brothers; Christopher (Alisa), and Curtis. She also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, My Just Desserts staff, beloved customers and Shalom Church City of Peace church family.

Visitation Friday, August 5, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Celebration of Life will be held at Shalom Church (City of Peace) 5491 North Hwy 67 Florissant, MO 63034.
