Wilson Morrison "Willie" Bering III

Dateline:  GodfreyWilson Morrisson “Willie” Bering III, 78, died at 8:25 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Alton Memorial Hospital from many complicaitons of elective surgery he had on his birthday for a birthday present to himself and fought very hard as did his daughter Kim.  Kim kept in contact with his other daughter Tami daily.   Born April 19, 1938 in Decatur, IL he was the son of Horace and Aileen (Cook) Bering.  Mr. Bering attended St. Ambrose Catholic Church and was a member Alton-Wood River Sportsmen’s Club and the Alton Moose Lodge #951.  The moose has a party for him called Willie Day and he had a great time on the Saturday before his birthday with them.  They appreciated him and he loved them dearly.  He was a tool and die maker at his family’s foundry Chambers Bering and Qunilan of Decatur Illinois, Norfolk and Western Railroad and many construction jobs along with owning a bar called Willie’s Place.   A man of all trades, he was a professional bowler, loved to hunt and fish, shoot pool, play shuffleboard and played high school and college football and playing cards.   He was a Cubs fan but because he lived with Kim he became a Cardinals Fan unless they were playing the Cubs.   He was a very special man who loved his life, family, friends and his kitty cat and Josie and all animals of nature.   Surviving are two daughters, Kimberly Trout (Pat) of Godfrey and Tami Morris (Larry) of Springfield, IL, a granddaughter, Lorraine Chaney of Decatur, IL, and his former wife, Betty Bering of Decatur, IL.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Wilson M. Bering IV, and a brother, Bud Bering. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 12,  2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.  Father Steve Polhman will officiate.  Memorials may be made to the Alton Moose Lodge #951.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
