Wilma Engelke

Wilma Engelke, 86, went to be with the Lord at 11:15 am on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.

She was born on September 26, 1925 near Prairietown, IL, to Ernest and Hilda (Meyer) Braasch.

She married Lester Engelke on April 22, 1944 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown.  He survives.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown.  Wilma taught Sunday School there for 40 years.  She was a dedicated farm wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

In addition to her husband of 67 years, she is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Arlin) Schaefer of Prairietown; a son, Steven (Jeanette) Engelke of Prairietown; four grandchildren and their spouses, Michelle and Tim Goebel, Matt and Nikki Schaefer all of Prairietown, Dr. Carla Engelke, O.D. of Tucson, AZ and Mark Engelke of Maryville; five great grandchildren; a sister, Marie Franke of Bethalto; a brother, Charles (Dorothy) Braasch of Dorsey and her nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Braasch and a brother-in-law, Arnold Franke. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, November 28, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  Visitation will continue from 9 am until funeral services at 10 am Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairietown with Pastor Dale Skeesick officiating.

Burial will follow at Prairietown Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
