William “Weasel” J. Hazelwonder Sr., 74, passed away at 12 pm on Thursday, March 23, 2017.
He was born on January 3, 1943 in Hardin, the son of the late John and Mabel (Shanks) Hazelwonder.
He married Sandy (Craigmiles) Hazelwonder on June 18, 1988 in Alton. She survives.
Weasel worked at Jordon Roofing and Specialty Waste both in Alton. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom and Ginseng hunting. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Sandy, he is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Theresa (Pat) McGuiggan of Jerseyville, Jody (Tom) Scheldt of Alton; five step-children, Donny Cox of Springfield, IL, Tim Sunderland of Alton, Desiree Fester of Pleasant Hills, IL, Shelly (Perry) Hensel of Texas, Bambi (Bobby) Moser of East Alton; four siblings, Virginia Stumpf of Hardin, Cecilia Friedel of Jerseyville, Eddie (Mary) Hazelwonder of Batchtown, Jimmy Hazelwonder of Fieldon, IL; 40 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, William Hazelwonder Jr., a step-son, Kenny Cox, a step-daughter, Gina Giesler; two brothers, Donnie and John Hazelwonder; three sisters, Betty Madison, Eileen Hancock and Helen Hazelwonder.
Visitation will be from 11 am until the time of the service at 1 pm Monday, March 27, 2017 at Gress, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin with Pastor Ralph Schultz officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Norbert’s Catholic Cemetery in Hardin.
