Dr. William Ray Stinnett, 100, of Carlinville, IL passed away Saturday evening, November 4, 2023, at his residence. He was born on August 20, 1923, in Benld, IL to James and Pearl (Trioni) Stinnett. William married Olga Zebrun on June 21, 1946, at the Orthodox Church in Benld,IL. She preceded him in death on November 18, 2011. Also preceding him in death are his parents and his brothers, Myrle and Earl. William is survived by son, William Ray Stinnett, JR (wife Joyce) of St. Louis, MO, and by daughter, Jeanne Stinnett Hughes (husband Richard) of New Orleans, LA. Also surviving are three grandchildren Kristen, Sarah, and Richard, and four great-grandchildren Sophia, Isabelle, Hudson, and Eloise. William attended Illinois College in Jacksonville and Northwestern Dental School in Chicago. He first practiced dentistry in Barry, IL for five years. During the Korean War, he served in the US Airforce as a dentist stationed at the Tachikawa Airbase in Japan, holding the rank of Captain. For over 40 years he had a dental practice in Carlinville, IL. He was an avid reader, fisherman, duck hunter, wood carver and woodworker. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Rotary Club both of Carlinville. Visitation will be on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie, IL followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Holy Dormition Cemetery, Benld, IL. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Carlinville, the Carlinville Public Library or plant a tree through the Kravanya Funeral website.
