William Russell

William A. “Bill” Russell II, 80, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 1:33 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at his home. 

He was born January 1, 1944, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, a son of the late William A. and Wilma Russell.  He married the love of his life, Judith Lee (Range) Russell on June 12, 1965, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granite City and she survives.  Bill retired from McDonnell Douglas/Boeing in St. Louis after 44 years of dedicated service as an engineer.  He was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City and a member of the Granite City Elks Lodge #1063 where he had served as a Past Exalted Ruler and secretary.  He cherished his grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends. 

In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Matt Sheridan of Granite City; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Candace Russell III of St. Louis and Matthew and Heather Russell of Edwardsville; nine grandchildren and spouses, Elijah Russell, Olivia and Isaac Maue, Madeline Sheridan, Lydia Sheridan, Phoebe and Tanner Pieri, Benjamin Russell, Liam Russell, Alec Sheridan and Nicholas Russell; a sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Bob Shaw of New Port Richey, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Donna Arnold of Granite City and Doris Range of Edwardsville; many nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family and many friends. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Michael Range. 

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Avenue in Granite City on Monday, February 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Steve Thompson and Father Jeff Holtman as celebrants. 

Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville at a later date.  Memorials may be made to Holy Family School or to Masses and may be accepted at the funeral chapel.
