William Pobanz

William Brent "Bill" Pobanz, age 75, quietly passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024 at his home.
William was born on October 20, 1949 in Geneseo, IL to Frank Junior and Helen (Belton) Pobanz.
Bill loved life on the family farm in his childhood and teen years. His grandparents doted on him, and offered him many opportunities. As a result, a lifelong love of learning, adventure, and travel was born.
Bill's first splash into his beloved career in aviation was landing a small plane in his grandparents' cornfield during his future wife's bridal shower. Bill was later drafted into service during the Vietnam War, serving in the Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller. Upon returning home, he began earning his many certifications that led to an adventurous career in aviation. It was often said that if one would put a propeller on a barn door, Bill Pobanz could get it to fly. Bill never stopped working with his beloved airplanes. Upon his death, he was still an active Designated Airworthiness Representative for the Federal Aviation Administration.
In addition to his illustrious career in aviation, Bill's family is proud to remember him as a rocket scientist, farming expert, and professional mechanic. He loved tinkering and doing and making things by hand. He took great pride in his construction projects, steam engines, and the auction finds someone could surely fix up to use. Bill's thirst for knowledge inspired those around him, which is likely why his children always have a book nearby.
William is survived by a spouse, Carol (Howell) Pobanz; three children and their spouses: Hope (Aaron) Hunter of St. James, MO, Josh Pobanz of St. James, MO, and Phillip (Alanna McCarthy) Pobanz of Overland Park, KS; long-time companion, Kimberly Hunt; his siblings: Lynne Davis of Illinois, and Mark (Teresa) Pobanz of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Zane Hunter, Sean Hunter, Alex (Valerie) Hunter, Emmalee (Michael) Harris, and Elizabeth Pobanz. He was very excited about the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Marlo, expected in February 2025.
William is preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted at a later date.
