William Fewell

William M. Fewell, 92, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at his home.

Bill was born on February 24, 1925 in Carroll County, Tennessee near Lavinia Tennessee, the ninth child of twelve born to William M. Fewell and Vinnie D. (Coleman) Fewell.  He attended Lavinia Schools.  In March of 1943, he volunteered for the U.S Army through the Draft Board for the duration of the war plus six months.  He took training at Camp Edwards, Massachusetts, was sent to England, to France after “D” Day, and participated in three major battles in France and Germany.  He returned in 1946 and was mustered out in February of 1946.  He came to Illinois in September of 1946 and began an apprenticeship in the Carpenters and graduated in May 1950.  With his wife, Mary, Bill formed Fewell Construction Company in 1956 which was his lifelong work.  Bill was Master of the Wood River Masonic Lodge in 1978.  He was an avid flyer and served as president of the Aircraft Owners Association. Bill enjoyed fishing, gardening, and travel. 

On April 1, 1949, he married Mary L. Sanders.  They were married for 65 years until her death in 2014.  To this union there were three children:  Marsha K. (Ed) Buckshot, William E. Fewell, and Linda D. (Steve) Amizich.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his wife, his son, and daughter, Marsha.  He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Steve) Amizich; eight grandchildren; 11great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one sister. 

Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 3 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 9 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to 1st Baptist Church of Hartford or the American Heart Association.
