William Long

William “Bill” Aaron Long Jr., age 87, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Born on June 9, 1939, in Granite City, Illinois, he was the son of the late William and Lillian (Gann) Long Sr.

On June 7, 1958, Bill married Anna Mozell Bollinger, the love of his life, in Granite City. Together, they shared sixty-eight years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter and treasured family memories. His love for Mozell and their family remained at the heart of his life.

A proud United States Army veteran, Bill served his country with honor. He brought that same dedication to his career as a structural designer and CAD/CAM operator, retiring from URS in St. Louis at the age of seventy-two after many years of service. He also cherished fond memories of his earlier years working at Anheuser-Busch and FruCon.

Bill found happiness in the many interests that filled his days. He enjoyed sailing, biking, attending air shows and country western dancing. He was just as content sitting beside his wood stove or spending time in his man cave. Researching his family tree and collecting family photographs were especially meaningful to him, reflecting his love for the people and memories that connected the generations.

Above all, Bill’s greatest joy was time spent with his family. He loved life and loved to laugh, and the moments shared with those closest to him were the ones he treasured most. His presence will be deeply missed, and the memories of his laughter, companionship and love will remain a comfort to those who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Long.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving and devoted wife, Anna Mozell Long of Glen Carbon, Illinois; his loving children, Michael Long of Osage Beach, Missouri, David (Pauline Martinez) Long of Troy, Illinois, and Darryl (Marc Savory) Long of St. Peters, Missouri; his dear sister, Joyce Lehmer; extended family; and many wonderful friends.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Irwin Chapel in Glen Carbon, Illinois, with the funeral service to follow at 12:30 p.m. Bill will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, Illinois, with military rites conducted by the United States Army.

Memorial donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation and will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
