William Lawrence "Larry" Day, 70, entered eternal life aided by the last rites of the Catholic Church on December 25, 2017 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, from U.S. military related illnesses.
Born November 12, 1947 in Brawley, CA, he was the son of Wannie (Bell) Day of Alton and the late Judge John W. Day.
A graduate of Roxana High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree at SIU-E. He worked at the Olin Corporation for 20 years pre- and post-military service.
Larry enjoyed his military service, having served three tours of duty in Vietnam which included rescue missions as a 'Blackhawk' helicopter door gunner, three years as an instructor at "Jungle Survival School" in Panama, and a drill instructor at Fort Polk, LA and Fort Riley, KS.
He served 12 years as Chairman of the Bethalto Board and enjoyed working with veteran support groups and spending time with others.
On August 26, 2000 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Bethalto, he married Marcy Farmer. She survives.
Surviving in addition to his mother and wife are daughter, Laura Robbins; sons, John L. (Justina) Day, Michael J. (Jennifer) Day, Joseph Day; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers, Fr. John Patrick Day CP and James (Sally) Day; sister, Linda Barrett; and other relatives especially, Mike Leady and Joe Minor.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, December 29 at Holy Angels Parish Church in Wood River, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday. Fr. John Patrick Day CP will serve as main celebrant with Frs. Donald Wolford and Patrick Brennan CP as concelebrants.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to masses of the Disabled Veterans.
Larry's wish would be for all of us to pray for all veterans and their families who have served our country faithfully.
