William Eugene "Gus" Hopper, 95, of Gillespie, IL, died at Heritage Health of Gillespie, IL on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 11:50 pm.
He was born December 5, 1925, in Henderson, IL to Vernie Hopper & Kathleen (McFarlan) Hopper. He married Ivonia (Rademacher) Hopper on January 23, 1946 in Gillespie, IL. She preceded him in death on October 12, 2020.
He was a retired coal miner and a steelworker. He was a veteran of the US Navy after having served during WWII. William was a member of the United Steel Workers Union and Gillespie Lions Club. He was an avid bowler and secretary of the bowling league.
He is survived by his son, Wendell Hopper of Benld, IL, grandchildren, Brennan Hopper of Gillespie, IL and Jessica (Tim) Reid of Gillespie, IL.
William was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, son, William E. Hopper, brothers, Jim Hopper, Richard Hopper, sisters, Lois Keck and Dorothy Bone.
Friends may call on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie, IL from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. Funeral services are Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 11:00 am at Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie, IL.
Burial will be at Gillespie Cemetery, Gillespie, IL. COVID 19 guidelines will be followed including mandatory masks.
