Wendell N. Aulabaugh, age 87, passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Alton Memorial Hospital, Alton, Illinois
He was born on February 11, 1922, in Rockbridge, IL, the son of Luther & Lena (Scroggins) Aulabaugh. He married the former Elsie L Flippo on June 26, 1942 in Alton; she preceded him on May 26, 2007.
He was employed at Laclede Steel as a roller in the Blooming Mill for 42 years, retiring in 1984. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII as a Sergeant, where he trained troops for Radar Navigation. He was a member of the Brown St. Baptist Church in Alton, the Alton Y, where he swam three times of week and was active with the Alton Senior Services.
He is survived by, four daughters and their spouses, Sandra and Donald Gissler of Hampton, GA, Gayle and J. R. Hise of Godfrey, Connie and Dave Nesgoda of Juneau, AK, and Wendy and Shawn Allen of Alton, eleven grandchildren Lori Breit, Neil Gissler, Andrew Gissler, Heather Campbell, Kristy Walker, Steve Hise, Jason Hillery, Megan Allen, Kaitlyn Allen, Benjamin Allen and Olivia Allen, twelve great grandchildren and one sister Jackie Dyslin of CA.
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, wife and five siblings, Berniece Elliott, Althea Keasler, Talma Franciscus, Gale Aulabaugh and Carole Sloan.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, IL.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Brown St. Baptist Church in Alton. with Pastor David Burman officiating.
Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery, with military rites being preformed by Alton VFW Post 1308.
Memorials may be made to Brown Street Baptist Church Building Fund.
