Wayne L. “Woody” Hubbert, 81, died peacefully at his home, as was his wish, with family by his side at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013.
Born April 15, 1932 in Winchester, IL he was the son of Norman and Mary Inez (Bunch) Hubbert. He was a member of the North Alton Southern Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing guitar and was an avid go-cart and stock car racer. He was a volunteer firefighter for Godfrey for over 10 years. He retired from Laclede Steel as a crane operator after 40 years of service and went on to be a school bus driver for Laidlaw Bus Company along with his wife as a driver’s aid. On September 29, 1951 he married the former Marilyn Sue Mason. She preceded him in death on May 24, 1999.
Surviving is a daughter, Linda Sue “Susie” McKee (Kevin) of Alton, three sons, Michael W. Hubbert (Terri) of Alton, Kevin E. Hubbert of Patterson, and Scott A. Hubbert of Alton, four grandchildren, Marc A. McKee, Christopher J. McKee, Charlie R. Hubbert, and Bethany G. Hubbert, five great grandchildren, Alyssa, Hannah, Autumn, Malaki, and EmaLyn and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, Dale and Dwayne Hubbert, and a sister, Maxine Moran.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013.
Reverend Sonny Renken will officiate.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to the North Alton Southern Baptist Church.
