Wayne Gallagher

Wayne D. Gallagher, 78, of Alton, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, at his residence.

He was born on November 15, 1947, in Alton, IL, the son of Paul and Freda J. (Miller) Bazzell.

Wayne worked for a car auction for many years as a technician. He took pride in working with his hands and fixing things. He had a lifelong love of cars, especially Ford Mustangs, and enjoyed motorsports of all kinds, including NASCAR. One of his favorite pastimes was collecting and building model cars, a hobby that reflected his passion for automobiles and attention to detail. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his brother and sister, Dale Bazzell of Warrenton, MO, and Paula (Bob) Harvey of Montgomery, TX; nieces and nephews, Corey (Becky) Bazzell, Kristin (Nick) Leavy, Mike (Julie) Bazzell, Lauren Bazzell, Casey Bazzell, Alex (Phil) Reed, and Blake (Carline) Harvey; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Micah, Levi, Remy, Gage, Ashley and Sam; and a great-great-nephew, Oliver.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Don Bazzell.

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 10 am until time of service at 11 am, at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto has been entrusted with final wishes.
