Wayne Edmond Thomas, 94, of Godfrey, Illinois, passed away on June 2, 2018, peacefully in his sleep.
Wayne was born in Govan, Saskatchewan, Canada on February 25, 1924 to Sterling and Gladys Thomas. He spent most of his youth working the family farm outside Marshalltown, Iowa. He was enlisted in the United States Army in Boston, Massachusetts in 1943 and served in both World War II and Korea. He later resided in St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft as an accountant. He then retired to Godfrey, Illinois, where he has lived for the past 35 years.Wayne enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golf. He was very fond of leisure time spent at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, as well as Las Vegas. He is predeceased by his wife Carole of 35 years, his grandson Jamie Fennell, and his sister Dorothy Beeson. He is survived by his children: Michael Thomas and his wife Darcy, Diane Jordan, Mark Thomas, and Todd Fennell and his wife Jackie; his grandchildren: Greg Thomas, Sarah Thomas, Nick Fennell, Jeff Sandefer, and Brandy Sandefer; his sisters: Virginia Eggers and Glenda Wilkinson; his great grandchildren, his nieces and nephews, as well as the rest of his family and friends.The family of Wayne Thomas wishes to thank Morningside of Godfrey Assisted Senior Living for its remarkable care of Wayne.Visitation will be Saturday, June 9, 2018, 930 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. A Chalice Presentation will be at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Father Steven Janoski as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton.
