Walter Heinz

Walter Michael Heinz, age 84 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJC) in Saint Louis, MO.

He was born on Tuesday, September 30, 1941, in New Douglas, IL, the son of Walter and Anna (nee Kuba) Heinz.

On Friday, February 3, 1989, he married Opal Christina Heinz nee Morgan in Edwardsville, Illinois, who survives.

He was a member of the VFW and American Legion.

Walter was born in New Douglas, Illinois and grew up there. He graduated from Livingston High School in 1959. Walter worked for several years at Olin Brass Company until he was drafted into the US Army with service in Vietnam. When he returned from service, he worked at Meyer Amoco in Livingston until retiring in 2007.

In his retirement, he enjoyed going back to Amoco and volunteering around the shop while it was changing over to a convenience shop. Walter enjoyed NASCAR racing and old cars. He thrived on keeping his yard in pristine shape, as he loved doing yardwork. Nothing meant more to him than spending time with his grandson, Will. Walter was known as a “man of few words”, but he spoke, you listened and knew he meant the words he said.

  • Son - Scott D. (Michele) Heinz, Highland, IL
  • Grandson - William M. "Will" Heinz, Highland, IL
  • Brother - Richard (Ginny) Heinz, Staunton, IL
  • Brother - Ronald (Suzanne) Heinz, New Douglas, IL

He was preceded in death by::

  • Father - Walter Heinz
  • Mother - Anna Heinz (nee Kuba)

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

There is no visitation, service or burial are planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Metro East Humane Society or American Legion Post 439.
