W. Gilworth

W. Robert “Bob” Gilworth, age 79, of Overland Park, KS formerly of Jerseyville went to be with the Lord on January 28, 2017. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Wednesday, February 1 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS with the Rosary to be prayed at 7:45PM. Mass will be held at Church of the Ascension, 9510 West 127 St., Overland Park, KS at 10AM on Thursday, January 2 with burial to follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, 9501 W 159 St, Overland Park, KS.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years , Sharon; two daughters, Jill Matthews and Jena Gerwick; four grandchildren; Shannon, Corey, Meghan and John; plus sons-in-law, Tom Coones and David Matthews; one brother, Richard Gilworth; and one sister, Linda Chappell; one-great-granddaughter Chesney; and two great-grandsons Liam and Jordan. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Gilworth; his father Wayne Gilworth; daughter, Jayne Coones; and grandson, Jared Coones.

Born in 1937, he grew up on a farm in Illinois and married his high school sweetheart. They became engaged about one year after graduation and he entered the Army for two years. They were married a year later and lived in the Seattle area while Bob finished his military service there. He spent nearly 40 years in the insurance industry, much of it in Sales and Marketing management, earning numerous production and profitability awards. He also earned the respected CPCU and CIC professional insurance designations.

Bob was an avid fisherman, experiencing much enjoyment and success in fishing from Texas to Canada. He enjoyed good memories from trips with his children, grandchildren and sons-in-law. He also marveled over all the places he and Sharon hand gotten to travel around the world on company award trips, with a church group and others following their retirement. As a young man on the farm, he had not even expected to travel far in the U.S.
