Virginia Sue Hayes, 73, died at 7:15 a.m., Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the home of her nephew, Larry Zimmerman, in Moro, under the care of BJC Hospice.She was born in Grafton on July 7, 1944, and was the daughter of William D.H. "Bus" and Muriel (Britt) Hayes.A lifelong resident of Grafton, Sue graduated from Jersey Community High School in 1963.Sue was a devout and faithful Christian, and joined the First Baptist Church in Grafton in 1966. She then pursued her education enrolling in 1967 to the Ozark Bible Institute in Ozark, Arkansas.She enjoyed her friends at church and volunteering when needed, and cherished time spent with her family. Having no biological children of her own, Sue treated each niece and nephew as if they were hers. Sue was fortunate to have three generations of nieces and nephews, that knew she cared for them deeply, and was the recipient of their love as well.During her adult years, Sue worked at several locations, with each and every one of those jobs allowing her to be around people. She began working at Schulte's Restaurant and Brainerd's Restaurant both in Grafton, Principia College in Elsah, From the Heart Restaurant in Jerseyville, and retired from the bakery department at Wal-Mart in Jerseyville.When she had some spare time, she enjoyed family, friends, playing card games, crocheting and just helping anyone that she could.Surviving are three sisters and a brother in-law, Tabitha and Jack Marshall of Grafton, Elaine Moyer, and her companion, James Fulfer of Salem, Oregon, and Emma Jean Hayes of Grafton; two sisters in law, Barbara Hayes of Jerseyville and Sandra Hayes of Gillette, Wyoming; as well as all those loving nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jonathon Hayes, David Hayes II, and Aaron Hayes; along with a nephew, David Hayes III.Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until time of funeral services at 11:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Grafton. Rev. William Hendricks will officiate.Burial will take place in the Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton.Memorials may be given to her family in care of Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, who has been entrusted with the services.
