Virginia Lorraine Potts, 70, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away at 8:57 a.m. Tues. Sept. 8, 2026 at Evercare at University in Edwardsville.
She was born May 15, 1956 in St. Louis, MO to the late Joan (Spiller) Sutton and James Walter Schmutz.
She and Michael Potts were married Oct. 18, 2008 in Pontoon Beach, IL. He preceded her in death Oct. 14, 2023.
Virginia was a registered nurse and worked in nursing and nursing education as well as a school teacher, spending over 20 years in her profession.
She is survived by 3 daughters: Michele (Dirt) Rickard of Jerseyville, IL, Angela (Clay) Breithaupt of Granite City, IL and Sarah (Russell) Crane of Jerseyville, IL; 2 sons: Stephen (Kayla) Breithaupt of Edwardsville and Tony Misuraca of Jerseyville; 13 grandchildren: Jay (Autumn) Rickard, Cody Rickard, Tory (Brandon) Hart, Jewl Heck, Savannah (Daniel) Heck, Faith Misuraca, Justin Richardson, Erika Richardson-Breithaupt, Trevor Liefer, Connor (Cheyanna) Ulrich, Carter “Jo” Ulrich, Lily Crane and Vinny Badalamenti; 9 great-grandchildren: Elijah, Charlotte “Charlie”, Everly, Logan, Atlas, Jackson, Peanut, Naomi and Harmony; a brother: James Schmutz; and 2 sisters: Maranda Smothers and Carole Zierenberg.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Grace Misuraca and 3 sisters, Laura Walker, Kathleen Bell and Mary Breitweister.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. Mon. Sept. 14, 2026 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory with Sarah Crane officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Belleville, IL.
