Virginia Lee (Canady) Nolan Jones

Virginia Lee (Canady) Nolan Jones, 90, passed away at 5:40 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017 at OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born December 9, 1926 at her parent’s home in Alton, the only child of Ervin and Anna (Bramlett) Canady. She was educated in Alton, graduating Alton High School in 1945. She married Edward A. Nolan on February 9, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1971. She married Robert H. Jones on September 12, 1987. He preceded her in death in 2016. Virginia was employed as a secretary before staying home as a farm wife for several years. She then became a nurse’s aide with St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alton where she enjoyed her work caring for newborns and assisting new mothers in the maternity ward. She enjoyed traveling, baking and spending time with her family as well as volunteering at Calvary Baptist Church where she and Robert were members for many years. She is survived by sons, Gerald (Doris) Nolan of Bunker Hill and Danny (Kay) Nolan of Monmouth, IL, grandson, Cory (Rosemary) Bishop of Vernon Hills and granddaughter, Andrea (Daniel Walters) Nolan of Jacksonville Beach, FL and great-granddaughter, Hailey Bishop of Vernon Hills, IL, a step-great granddaughter, Michelle Solis of Vernon Hills, IL, a step-son, Barry (Addie) Jones of Bridgeton, New Jersey, and a step-daughter, Brenda (John) Weston of Indiana, Pennsylvania. Preceding her in death were both husbands, her parents, daughter, Betty (Nolan) Hartl in 2002, granddaughter Jamie Bishop in 1971, a step-son, Brian Dale Jones, and a step-granddaughter, Shannon Marie Jones. A celebration of life will be held at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017. Reverend Andre’ Dobson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in her name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of choice.
